August Crafts and Things

Just popping in to show you something real quick.
I received my copy of Crafts and Things and guess what?? They published one of my cards that I sent into the Rubber Stamps last year. Here is the original post on 360 where I talked about the card.
On a personal note, I'm making progress. I'm so glad I gave myself permission to stop blogging for a few days. I love blogging and the friends I've made here. Sadly, sometimes I have to be and adult and make adult priorities.

I finished a really great card yesterday. I'll take a minute to take a picture of it later this afternoon. I'm not sure when I'll get back to post it, but it will be very soon. I've got a little more catching up to do and before you know it, I'll be back to my normal routine.

I'm leaving you with two pictures of that simple and quick (and now published) birthday card. The stamp can be found at Stamping Sensations. The marbleized paper was purchased at Walmart years ago. They don't even sell it anymore. I colored the cupcake with my trusty Prismacolor pencils and colorless blender pencil. The embossed background is one of the original Cuttlebug embossing folders. I used square punches to create the frame. The brown layer is beneath the embossed layer and there is a layer beneath that. I like to work with windows and frames and 'mats' like you would mat a picture. ETA: Although I've used this stamp many times before, I was originally inspired to make this a chocolate cupcake after reading this post on Dina's blog

I finally saw my card in November 2007 CardMaker magazine . They haven't sent me my complimentary copy just yet. (Actually, they usually send two copies.) They are probably looking for an address for "Jacqueline" Jones. They are suppose to call me "Jacki" in the magazine. Anyway, I almost bought it, but I didn't. I'll wait. I let my subscription run out, and I'm fighting the urge to send them money to reinstate it. I'm still struggling with this magazine mountain in my house. So far, I've only given away ONE magazine. Oh Snap! I meant to pick up a couple of flat rate boxes at the post office. I was only there yesterday and today! I guess I'll them tomorrow. sigh...

That's enough chit chat for today. I headed out to Michaels for my coloring class. I'll figure out a way to show you the class booklet w/o giving too much away. After all, If you want to take the class, come on down to see me (wink). Seriously, I'll show you something tomorrow morning.

The RubberStamper July/August

I had a dream last night that the Rubber Stamper came while we were in transition. The magazine got lost when it was forwarded and I saw it for the first time in Michaels. I've got to stop watching movies late at night. The reality was not quite so dramatic but exciting, nevertheless.

No cover, but I have two projects published in The Rubber Stamper. I'm in good company as always. This time I actually know a bunch of people that were published. My friend Staci has a scrapbook page and a card, Melissa from the Stamping Studio also has a scrapbook page. One of my friends from GA, Jacqui Graham, has a whole article written about her and the Art Stamping group she started (page 74). I'm sure there are more that I could mention. I need to sit down tonight and really read the magazine.
ETA: I found another friend from The Stamping Studio board, Cindi Bisson, has a scrapbook page also.


My project takes up a whole page( First Look page 15)!! I used alcohol inks to decorate one of those 6 x 9 acrylic clipboards. I didn't have a great picture of it so I'll just show you a little bit of it. You have to see the whole thing in the magazine.


They also used my card in the article on page 45 about Alchohol inks.

The mail distracted me from organizing my stamps in the basement and I need to get that accomplished today! Come back tomorrow for details!!

The Rubber Stamper Design Team Challenge

Of course the day I need to get my bills in the mail, the mailman comes at early! I was frantically trying to get everything ready that would need to be mailed when I saw the mailman at 9:30. His usual time anywhere from 11:30 -1:30, but usually closer to noon. Now I have to add Post Office to my list of today's errands.

But on a happy note, the mailman brought me a copy of the Rubber Stamper this morning. My last Design Team submission was published. Here are my pictures of the cards. Again, I obviously like the cards but they are not my favorites of the bunch. I'll give them a call next week to see if it's ok to show you pictures of the ones they didn't publish. I guess they could use them at a later day, but they probably won't...


The first one features a skeleton stamp by Eureka.


And this one features a stamp from a SU set called Lovely as a Tree.

I am almost finished my sister's BD card, but I probably won't blog about it until Monday. I need to make her two cards anyway. I'll let the kids sign the "nice" one and I'll sign the funny one. I bought a Limerink stamp from Hambo for the inside of the funny one. Click on Hambo and check out "Better Than Dead". I'm going to have to add the first Birthday stamp to my next order. That one is cute too!

Here's another reject..

As promised, here is another one of my favorite cards that was rejected for publication. Actually it was sent into The RubberStamper at the same time as the card in the previous post. I don't own this stamp, so if you know which company makes this let me know.

I mentioned my buddies from the Eureka Board yesterday, but not by name. They are Dina (Dini), Trish D.(Tah-Dah!) , Sara(Sarosa) and Madison(Madison).

Eureka rewards stampers with free stamps for getting published so we are prepaing for the worse, but hoping and expecting the best! --besides, making cards is soooo much fun!

I'm hoping to have my cheer bag card done in the next day or so. I can't wait to show it to you!!

Rejected! One of many...

I made this card in 2003 and sent it into TheRubberStamper. If my memory serves me correctly, they were doing an article on color pencils. As you probably guessed from the title of this post, it was rejected. I'm not telling you about it because I want a pity party, but as a way of encouraging some of my buddies from the Eureka board.
We are sending in some cards to a publication as a group. For some of them, this will be their first submission.
I don't want them to feel bad if their card isn't chosen. We all know there is no guarantee, but I just thought I'd share one of my absolute best-most-favorite cards I've ever done, that were rejected! Actually it was simply returned to me, but for just a moment, I felt rejected.
Although it is fun and sometimes rewarding to see your card in the magazine, I don't want anybody to feel bad if they don't choose our cards. Today and for the next few days, I am going to show you some of my very favorite cards that have been returned to me.

First let me tell you about this card. The Peony is Stampendous. The Bow is /was Del Rose which was part of Biblical Impressions, now owned by Eureka Stamps. Hopefully this will be one of the images they revive from the Del Rose line. I colored the images using Prismacolor Pencils and a colorless blender pencil. I haven't tried using the mineral spirits to blend, just haven't had time. I am satisfied with the results I get with the Prismacolor colorless blender pencil and you can't beat its portablilty. I do a lot of coloring when I waiting-- car pool lines, doctor appts, etc...
I remember that coloring this image was therapy for me on a rare quiet day away from all the daily stuff.

I think the two green papers are by... let me go find it. Yes, it is Keeping Memories Alive. I don't know if they would have it anymore unless, it is in their clearance items. I cut the windows, mat, and frame with the Oval Coluzzle.

When I pulled out this card a week ago, I could have kicked myself. TheRubberStamper just ended a submission call for window cards in mid February. I could have sent this in again.
So ladies, lets get our cards sent in, and hope for the best!

Tile Adoption Card

Today's mail brought a copy of the latest RubberStamper! And guess who had a card in it? OK, it was me! This issues is about Stamping for Special Situations.
For those of you who've been checking my Joyful Heart Art blog, you know I don't always get very excited about my published efforts. It really depends on how much I liked the card in the first place. I like this one.
The background: I really had fun with this background. I make the "tiles" with Bazzill Monochromatic cardstock. Here's how I do it. I cut 1 " squares with my paper trimmer. I run the folded card thru a Xyron 510 to make the card front sticky. Then I "lay the tiles" . This particular tile pattern was inspired by the background on one of the Mario Party Game Cube games. My son was a little annoyed with me as we played the game because I made him pause the screen so that I could sketch out the pattern. This particlar card is 4 x 6 ish so it takes 24 "tiles". The pattern requires 6 light tiles, 12 medium tiles, and 6 dark tiles. I used a Bazzill Trio pack because the colors were already chosen for me.
The Giraffe and Baby: is a Eureka Stamp. (giraffes are my favorite animal and this one is sooo cute) I colored them with Prismacolor pencils. Then using a 2 in 1 glue pen, I went over the blanket area and the heart shaped spot on the giraffe's backside. It takes a couple minutes to dry, going from blue when it's wet to clear when it's dry. I applied Abalone Pearl rub on foil to the now tacky areas. It's really cool looking in person.
The last element of this card is the vellum tag. This was the first time I remember actually using the Tag Maker. The adoption saying is from Hambo Stamps. *Hambo actually has a couple adoption related stamps. The tag maker tags comes with a trace and cut out template for each shape. (I wish they would make a punch to fit their shapes or make tag to fit standard size punches, but nobody asked me). Before I inserted the vellum and smooshed(technical term) the tag closed, I colored spots on the aluminum tag with gold and copper leafing pens.

Here is another baby card done with that sweet giraffe. I actually colored this one at the same time as the other one. This one features Stampin Up printed papers. The B/Baby tag is Stampin Up.
