Loving Wish

Happy Monday!

It's been a long time since I actually made a card start to finish. I'm going to do that today. If it's the last thing I do.
I made this card before my trip. I love the floral images that Flourishes has. This one is the perfect size for coloring because it doesn't take all day to make it beautiful. The card stock is also my favorite. It's actually double-sided and textured. Michaels did good when they ordered this one.

I'm finishing up a project for Hero Arts-- which reminds me... It's a big week over at HA. Lots of new stuff revealed including revisions to the website. Lots of prizes. Hop on over to the Hero Club Blog and see for yourself.

I need to finish up and clean up. I'm having stamping company tomorrow! Yeah!

Never Underestimate Your Small Part

I was feeling particularly thankful yesterday after returning from Warner Robins, Southside Baptist Church, and all the friends I have there.
I can't think of Southside with gratitude without thinking about the one person who is responsible for bringing us there with one simple gesture of kindness.
**********
We were going thru a relocation from Augusta GA to Macon GA. It turns out that a lot of people from our current church were from that area, or thy had family in that area and they suggested that we move to Warner Robins instead of Macon. My online house hunting online turned up a few interesting prospects. One such house that I thought would be worth looking into was listed by the owner/agent. I contacted her by email with questions. Her response was quick and very pleasant. Because of this, when we planned a trip to WR and decided to use Anisa as our realtor. My husband talked to her a few times as they lined up a few houses for us to see.

Planning the house hunting trip was a feat in itself. We were trying not to make the kids miss too much of their final activities in the town we'd spent six years of their lives. Moving is already tragic enough and I wanted to make it as easy on them as possible. We tried not to take them out of school or away from any of their activities. January is the peak of our busiest season. Two cheerleaders plus two basketball players with all their games and practices equaled a crazy busy schedule. We scheduled the house hunting for a Sunday afternoon of a holiday weekend with the intention of visiting one of the churches suggested to us by members of our current congregation. Michael had already started working in Macon and was coming home on the weekends. When he was at home we spent most of Saturday at the children's games. The week before this trip, I prayed all week long dreading the house hunting and church hunting process. Looking at the list of suggestions, my prayer was, "Lord, You already know exactly where you want us to serve you, would it be too much to ask that you send us straight there?" During one of the last conversations Michael had with Anisa that week, they discussed her church. It was one of the ones on the list, but not the one we originally planned to attend first. He called me and told me that he wanted to try Southside first. I smiled.

The plan was to drive down early Sunday morning in two cars and I would come back on the Monday holiday with the kids in tow. We left much later than we'd planned. If you know us, you're probably chuckling as you think," that's not a surprise." We arrived in WR just in time to meet Anisa. The new plan involved evening service after a couple hours of preliminary house hunting.
We finished looking at final house for the evening just about 20 minutes or so before the service was to start. Michael was ready to go to church, but I wanted to feed my children, then ages 15, 13, 10, 7 and 4. They had been very cooperative all afternoon going from house to house, missing lunch because we'd had a late breakfast. I didn't want to go to church with stomachs growling. So as we stood in the Anisa's kitchen quietly 'discussing' the issue, neither of us was going to budge. Anisa interrupted and asked if she could feed the children peanut butter and jelly to hold them over until after church.
We arrived at the church just a few minutes late missing most of the music. After Bro. Jerry's sermon, the service ended. Rachel came over to me to introduce herself and Larry started talking to Michael. They took us around separately, showing us the building and introducing us to people-- I met the pastor and Michael met the music pastor, Bryan. We decided to take the kids out to eat and planned to compare notes.
On the way to the restaurant, we polled the kids and they all answered "yes" to the question, " did you like this church?" Remember, they heard very little music and had not been to Sunday school or anything kid related. I'm floored! My five kids, who can't be more different from each other, agreeing on one thing? The same five kids who never eat the same thing causing me to find clusters of fast food restaurants so that I can do at least two different drive thru windows to make everybody happy? It must be a God thing. And if that weren't enough to convince me, guess who showed up at Fuddruckers? The pastor and his wife! We scooted over and he and Mrs. Debby, joined us. As if we needed further confirmation than all five kids agreeing, It turns out that we had a lot of friends in common and supported some of the same missionaries.
Oh, and I failed to mention that we'd also found the house we were going to buy that day too.

Of all the places we've lived, we were in WR the least amount of time but I feel like we have the closest ties there. We also go back there more often than any other place we've lived due to the fact that our very dear, family-like friends (the Hydes) live there. And to think, God made this all happen because of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I'm still grateful to Anisa for her small part in our very special blessing.

Sweet Peas Birthday

So here is the card I promised the other day.

This is the stamp set I purchased from Flourishes. The background is done with a Stampin Up set and I used the Prismacolor pencils to color it.

I finally got the programs and jewelry in the mail... yesterday. I'm pretty proud of the finished product and I can't wait to show you a picture on Saturday. I think I'm going to go ahead and do the blog post and then schedule it for sometime Saturday. I'm not really sure if anyone effected will be reading my blog in the next couple of days, but I'm going to be cautious all the same. I don't want to ruin the surprise:)

OK on to New Business... I'm on Hobby Lobby's schedule. My name is spelled wrong and my email address as contact information is incorrect, but it's me!
I'm planning to do two classes a month for now. Each class will be offered at least 4 times. I'm going to work with the same format I used at Michaels.
Class Number One: The card making class will be the called Cheaper by the Dozen. This time, they place no restrictions on what I use. It's been my experience that the students in the class prefer that they can easily purchase the items I use in the class. I will be very careful to respect what they sell and try to use most of the supplies based on what they have in stock. The one good thing about HL is that their stamps change out frequently. At Michaels until very recently, I could still buy the very first stamp I purchased at Michaels 10 years ago.
Anyway, back to the class description...

Everything will be supplied to make 12 cards-- 4 of 3 different designs. They'll spend two hours working on the cards and learning new skills for the bargain price of $20. Each month we'll learn a new technique or use a new tool. They take home 12 completed cards that they can use to send a note of thanks or birthday greetings or whatever. (Most of the designs will have the option to use one of several different messages)
I'll post my samples when I get it figured out. The only thing I know right now is that I'll be doing demos for May.

Class Number Two will be the Stamping in Color class (I just went back to my original class name)
The first class is an intro class where they'll learn basic colored pencil techniques and a little bit about color theory. Based on demand, I'll do 3-4 classes over the course of maybe 2 months before we move on to another coloring medium. Some others that I'm interested in are water color pencils and crayons, paints, and chalks. One of these days, I may even do Copics after lots of practice and a certification class.:)

Well, that's all for today! I'm headed to relax and color and probably go to bed for early. I have another Dr.'s appointment in the morning and then I can concentrate on getting packed for my trip to Philadelphia (for the wedding) .. alone. Yes, I said ALONE! NO husband and NO kids. I love them all but sometimes it's nice to get away all by myself.

Be blessed! I'm going to get some rest. I hope you are well!

Peacock Happy Birthday

I love this Peacock. I like the way I colored it. I'm not so crazy about this card.
My best friend Julie K sent me some images (that's why she's my best friend) because I got down on my knees and begged her to (OK. Not really, I just sent her a really nice email and begged) :)

I wanted to place an order with Flourishes and I was having a hard time narrowing down my wish list. Julie made it easy for me to buy a different set now. I'll save this one for next time.
I made a card or two with that set too. Maybe tomorrow before my ribbon arrives, I'll take a few minutes to post it.

I made this for a friend with a June birthday. Which reminds me... I have a new system for mailing cards on time. I'll bet all my organized friends have a system. I didn't. Well, not since we've been in this house anyway. It just might help me. LOL.
I'm hopeful as always. Would you believe me if I told you that I asked God to help me? I really want to send cards to people. I've always loved cards because of the joy they bring when they are received. I'm not spreading enough joy lately and I asked Him to help me. I had an epiphany the other day. It happened one day as I walked up and down the steps AGAIN forgetting what I needed before I arrived.
My cards to be mailed and my address book where in my bedroom on the second floor, the envelopes were in the basement, and the stamps were on the main floor. ( DUH??!! No wonder I rarely get anything mailed.)
This was my old system: After I make a card, I put them in a basket. The basket goes with me upstairs so that I can write a nice note when I'm chillin' in my rocking chair. Once I write in a card, I'll remember that I need an envelope. Eventually, I'll need to head all the way back down to the basement. Once there, I'll probably become distracted by some card in process on my desk. The envelopes are in a drawer next to where I stamp, but I won't be thinking about that now. I'm in my creative room, so I'll feel creative. The next thing you know, I'll find myself making a card. After I get to a stopping point, or get stuck, I'll remember something I saw online, so I'll walk across the basement to my computer desk. Of course, there is so much to distract online. I don't even need to mention Facebook, the many blogs I stop in on, this blog, Gingerwood, Papercraft Planet, Twitter, yada, yada, yada. Then my alarm will go off because it's time for the school bus.
Wait, what was I talking about? OK, seriously, it didn't dawn on me that I was sabotaging myself. I've always had things more organized than this. This is the first house we've lived in with a finished basement. When we got settled in this house, things really spread out.

SOOO... to hopefully change this despicable pattern I have a new system. EVERYTHING for mailing cards is now in one place, right next to the computer. I even keep all my finished cards in the area ( instead of in The Card Castle where they used to be). I have some envelopes, postage stamps, mailing labels, return address labels, cards to be mailed in this table top file. I'm going to move all the envelopes to this area also after I make room for them by clearing out a drawer. I'll be selling some of my cards or (gasp) sending them out.
Whew!!! I know you're just shaking your head right now. But God loves me anyway! :)
Just smile and say, "Great job, Jacki"

Inspired!

I thought I'd make a card for the person who inspired me to purchase this stamp set with the tulip. I love Tulips. I have enough tulip stamps. My mind was made up, until I saw several cards Julie made with it. My determination dissolved and I bought it.
I wanted to show you the detail in the coloring, because it was one of the easiest and quickest I've done in a long time. I did most of this flower with one color pencil. I went back with a cranberry color only in key spots. As much as I love to color, sometimes time is of the essence and I need it to go quickly. All I did was vary the amount of pressure to get the shading. I didn't color all the way to the ends, that left lighter spots that serve as my highlights.

Now if I can just get this in the mail, we can call this a success!

And here is Sarah K (another inspiration) of Encouraging Impressions and me at Panera Bread last Saturday night. I'll have more pictures once she gets here on Monday.
