Paper Wallets (Gift Card Holder)

Hello! It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood! I hope the weather is good where you are.  A good sunny day can jump start a good mood, don't you agree? I just have two of my Paper Wallets to show today.  I actually haven't made one of these in at least two years, since I stopped teaching at Michaels. Basically, there are little purses made from various "papers" that I've found at the scrapbook store. 

While these two "purses" didn't follow my normal pattern, they were made the same way.  I will add the specifics of either of these if anyone is interested.

On a Personal Note: I'll be back Wednesday with more stuff to show you. 

I just got back into town from a 5 day (4 days driving) trip to Philadelphia for the Homegoing Celebration of my dear Aunt Elaine.  Tomorrow, I'm going for a MRI (prayers please).  The doctor wants to see if I have a brain. (LOL) Seriously, this is another step in trying to figure out my headache/migraine issues.  I'm making some more diet changes (cutting out  red meat and chocolate for a while) trying to figure out my triggers for this migraine thingy. I'm also getting back to the serious exercise routine. My daughter says I've had a relapse.  LOL Man, it's so easy to get knocked off your routine.  Remember several weeks ago when I had the flu, and then the flurry of Dr's appointments that followed...  Anyway, it's time to jumpstart a new beginning and a new determination. Anybody else fall off the "New Years Resolution" bandwagon and needing encouragement?  Email me and we'll commiserate and encourage each other. 

A believer in new beginnings, I'll jump right in with two feet raring to go... tomorrow. ;) Who's with me??

Michaels Classes for December and January

Today was Class Preview Day again at Michaels. In case you don't know what that is, we sit at tables with samples of our projects and talk to people about our classes attempting to generate interest and get sign ups. Last time we gave out a discounted coupon if they signed up that day. While we sit we are supposed to do/make something. I intended to color my sample coloring class book, but instead I worked on the cards for my December and January Card Club. I'm trying to add to their stamping skills each month.

December Card Club. I'm going to emboss and use the Big Kick die cutter. The cards are Beyond Postmarks Tennyson from K&CO. Their will choose the paper and the saying. Michaels doesn't have much of a selection of Christmas papers right now.


January Card Club
I'm not finished with this card yet, but I think we might emboss again, and I'm not sure what else I'm going to do but I have a couple of weeks to figure it out. All I know so far is that I want to use these cards. They will get to choose their papers, but for my sample I used papers from My Mind's Eye's Bohemian collection. The cards are Beyond Postmarks Keats from K&CO.


I'm also teaching the Paper Purses again in December and January. I'm going to do a different paper crafts project in February.


The papers and embellishments of the two above purses are from the Martha Stewart collection.

The Cheer Bag again...

I don't know what happened to the post from yesterday. When Jackie first asked me about the pictures, I could see them although she couldn't. That has happened to me before when I visit other blogs. As the day progressed the photos began to disappear. I removed half of them thinking maybe I'd uploaded too many to this post, but by this morning, all you could see was a little red x where each of the photos used to be. So, let's try that again....


The Cheer Bag contained tags with pictures of items that can be found in a real cheer bag. The backs of the tag provided each girl a place to write an note of thanks to their coach.



Here's how I made it. I started with blue 12 x 12 cardstock, trimmed to 12 x 6.25. Using the Jumbo wheel like a brayer (no ink cartridge inside) I stamped the outside with white dye ink. For the front panel, I took another strip of blue cardstock, trimmed it with a decorative wheel on my paper trimmer. The letters are the negative of the cardstock sticker letters (Memories Forever). I used a silver leafing pen to highlight the decorative edges.


It was scored it in the middle and at 1/8 inch increments on each side of that initial scoring line for a total of 7 scored lines. I wanted the bottom of the bag to have a lot of flexibility. Then it was scored 1 inch in from each end.

The 16 pockets were made for the inside.To make the pockets: Cut six 4 x 6 pieces from coordinating 12 x 12 paper. Score each at 2 and 4 ½ inches. Fold and stick together with double stick tape. Put a strip of double stick tape down the center of each pocket. One by one remove red lining and stack the envelopes together. ( There are step by step photos of this process here.) Remove the lining from the tape at the bottom of the stack and press one side, overlapping just the first few score lines. Remove the lining from the tape at the front of the stack and fold the other flap up pressing it into the tape.

When opened you should see a honeycomb effect.



I used magnetic buttons from Basic Grey as closures. As you can also see the handles were made by running white ribbon through floral eyelets.



The Tags: I used navy cardstock( 2 5/8 x 4 1/2"), the tag punch, the jumbo wheel, a bow punch, white cardstock( 2 1/2 x 4 ") for the part where they write, and photos of things that usually appear in a cheer bag.



Talk about working under pressure! I finished 10 minutes before we had to leave for the banquet.

Sneak Peak

You know the saying, "If it weren't for the last minute..." . I don't know why I waited until the last minute, but I am still working on that cheer bag "card". Tomorrow night we have the end of season banquet for the cheer team. The notes that the girls are writing will be inside along with other things you would normally find in a cheer bag. This is such a cute idea, I can't wait to finish it.

I just finished with the main part of the bag, so I thought I'd give you a preview. I have got to get to work on this thing as soon as the kids leave for school tomorrow. At least the hard part is done because of course at some point tomorrow, I have to prepare a dish for the banquet!



This is the inside before I stick the two sides together. This whole idea is a variation on my paper wallet. It's just a double paper wallet. You can find a link to the tutorial down on the right column.


I used my new jumbo wheel with Memories White Dye ink. I am trying to imitate the actual cheer bag, but it's plain boring navy with white letters. I thought this would give it a little interest without overload. The white dye ink will absorb a little more leaving a subtle background.
