Another Question?

What is the best gift you've ever received from a boss?

Easy answer for me - a gift card to Target! I hadn't been working at the company all that long and my boss was very apologetic that it wasn't more personal, but I was thrilled with it!

The best gift from a boss would have to be the end of the year bonus' we used to get back in the day...a check for a full months pay without taxes taken out!! Those were the days! We were spoiled! We worked hard all year long but the reward was worth it! Even though Curt retired and sold the business, and I have since left the company, he and his family are still part of my life to this day.

I received a day at a spa it was wonderful. I had been spearheading a lot of projects and worked a lot of overtime and really was into the work. The spa day was a real bonus because I didn't expect it.

30 years ago I worked for a guy who actually hired me away from another job! When I started I found out that he had a reputation for being antagonistic and odd. Both true!
But one Christmas he gave each of his 3 underlings an antique candle burning ralroad lantern. He had restored them to good yet old looking condition. It sits on my desk as I write this.

Last year the Judge I work for (I'm a court reporter) was impressed with the homemade Christmas card I made for him. So he decided to try his hand at a little creativity and drew a pencil sketch of our courtroom with me in the center of a little courtroom drama. It is quite good and is hanging right over my desk.

A family owned company, Superior, would have all the managers gather in the factory and pack baskets for every employee. Every basket had the fixings for a complete breakfast and supper. With all the beer consumed, I was always surprised the guys finished the job. And every basket had a ham. We also were given a crate of California oranges.

The owner of the Superior, while on vacation in California, stopped at a roadside fruit stand and became friends with the orchard owner.
Thank you for the question that brought back fond memories.

I hope more people respond. I loved reading everyones memories.

Probably the nicest and most surprising was MONEY. My family was getting ready to go to FL for a vacation the first year I worked for this gentleman. About a week before we were to leave, he handed me an envelope. I said "what's this?" He said, "I want you to have some fun." It was a l-o-t of cash. And he did the same thing every year when we got ready to go on vacation.
