Midlife Crisis

Who? I am a 44 1/2 year old mom of 5, in the middle of a relocating
What? who was prepared for a hysterectomy when I discovered that I'm pregnant.
Why? am I telling you this? Because I'm looking for people who will agree to partner with me in prayer. As an older mom, there are concerns about birth defects, and genetic testing etc... Why worry when we can pray?
When? My plan is to update weekly ( hopefully on Tuesday)
How? through this blog

I don't know if you can tell, but he is in the refridgerator. His sister took the picture and titled it, "Mitchie, He's what's for dinner? "

Today, my 8 year old (pictured above) referred to what I am going through as my Midlife Crisis, because every once in a while, I'll say something like "I can't believe I'm pregnant", or " What in the world are we going to do with a baby???" What does he know about a midlife crisis??? I really think he watches too much T.V. I guess it could be looked at as a crisis, but I don't choose to look at it that way. I feel like I'm a part of a special blessing. Actually, I'm still a little in shock, but I'll get to those details at a later date.

On my first visit to the doctor's office, he mentioned genetic counselling. A week or so later, I received some papers from the RN at his office describing the counselling and the tests in detail. Basically, between 16 and 24 weeks after most of the development has occurred they can do several tests. So instead of waiting and worrying, I decided to pray, --not just a big general prayer for a healthy baby like I've done in the past, but focusing my prayers on the parts that are developing that week. I'll tell you the exciting story of how I found out about the pregnancy in the next few days, but today, I'd like to get you caught up with the baby's development. I am at about 6 1/2 weeks right now.

I am getting the information from from pregnancy.org. You can go there for more details.

Baby's development:

Weeks One to Four
Gender is determined
Neural tube forms
Heart and primitive circulatory system rapidly form

Week Five
First heartbeats begin
Umbilical cord develops
Blood is now pumping
Most other organs begin to develop
Arm and leg buds appear

Week Six:
The arms and legs continue to develop
Brain is growing well
Lenses of the eyes appear
Nostrils are formed
Intestines grow
Pancreas

Mom's condition:
I am feeling nauseated, BUT, not as bad as I was with the other pregnancies. I'll tell you more about that later too.

ETA: You can look up hyperemesis to see what I went through before.

Here is my Bible passage that is ringing in my heart right now:
From Biblegateway.com

Philippians 4: 4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

What can you do? Join me in prayer and let me know that you are praying. You can let me know at the end of each post by leaving a comment. If you aren't registered, you can check Anonymous, but leave your name in the message part.

Jacki, stay strong. One of my dearest friends had her two boys when she was in her early forties. One is in graduate school and the other in undergrad. You have been and will continue to be in my prayers.

Cool, another blog! I'll get even less stamping done now as reading blogs takes over my life!! LOL!

I *AM* currently lifting you up in prayer every day, though. It's neat to pray for each development of the embryo. I'm also praying huge ones for the Mom, you know, because she's really special to me!!

Congrats! I was wondering what in the world would cause the cancelation of a hysterectomy...and now I have my answer. If it is any comfort, my dear friend just had baby number 6 at the age of 43 and all went well. Stay strong and prayerful and God will listen as he always does. You are in good hands.

I love your attitude and approach to this. I am reminded of how God has told us He will not give us more than we can handle. The story of how this all came about confirms that God wants this baby born - and He is already protecting this little life.

Count me in on the prayer circle! It's so neat knowing what's developing and happening to the baby week by week -- I tracked it so carefully with my kids. God never gives us more than we can handle, and there's a special plan for you AND the baby. Daily thoughts and prayers for you and the whole family!
