This was a treasure I found while cleaning off my desk yesterday. It was buried unfinished. I revived it by adding the panel to the front and the saying to the inside and... Poof, it's a card!
The paper is from the Basic Grey Blush Collection, the stamps inside are Hambo Stamps.
I cut the pattern paper 1/8 smaller on each side and stuck it to the front of an A2 card (5 /12 x 4 1/4) I used the Word window punch to punch thru both layers. I then trimmed the striped piece and the silver piece, after punching separately. I lined them all up on the card front leaving a window for the sea horse to peek thru. The brad and paper flowers only go thru the top two layers.
The sea horse (stamped in Brilliance Graphite Black) was colored and blended with Prismacolors and the colorless blender pencil, cut out and stuck into place with double stick tape. The saying was stamped with Fresco's Mediterrnean Tide, layered on more of the strip pattern and stuck to card's insde with double stick tape. I thought about creating a full ocean scene for the sea horse, but then I wouldn't have room to write my note. I still may do it but in second generation of the same color as the saying. Second Generation stamping is where you ink up the stamp, stamp it off on a scrap piece, and then stamp again without reinking. You get a much lighter impression.
I have the perfect friend to send this card to . I have been missing her 'cause I haven't seen her face to face in 2 years. Which got me to thinking about why I started making cards in the first place over 20 years ago, during my senior year in high school. (Over 20 but not waayy over 20. OK it is waayy over 20 but not 30 . If we were rounding, it would be 30, but since we aren't rounding we will just say, it's over 20, ok;) I make cards, because I like to send cards to people. One of the best feelings in the world is to have that recepient remark about that they still have that card I made them back before the birth of time and that they treasure it. I use the card to express words of encouragement or affirmation. One of my New Year's Resolutions for 2007 was to not only have fun making cards, but to actually send cards this year. So far, I'm doing better than last year --but that ain't saying much....
So?? Why do you make cards??

Hmmm....well, for a few months I was making them to donate to our local Meals on Wheels program and I also make them to send to friends for birthdays, etc., but lately all I have been doing is buying stuff to make them with and browsing blogs for inspiration (which led to more spending, of course!). There is a local craft show coming up in November and I hope to have a booth, so I better get busy!
This is a great card! I love the sea horse...too cute! I too make all my cards for holidays, birthdays, etc....but like you I get the best feeling from actually sending them, and imagining the recipient opening the envelope. Great blog!
I love this card! Are you a SU! dealer? I want to purchase a word window punch! Very Nice!
OOOOOOOOOOH!! The seahorse is one of my favorite animals!! This is the list: koala, seahorse, snail - at least I love those images stamped. I don't have a koala or a seahorse stamp! :( I do have a couple of snails.
Adorable card!!!
to answer Sandy's question, NO, I am not an SU dealer, but I have friends who are and I make it my business to support them. Let me know if you need me to put in touch with one of them. ;)
And for Staci(one of my Su dealers, I didn't know that about you! I have three or maybe four sea horse stamps, we'll have to talk. I like koalas too, but now that you mention it. I don't have a koala stamp.
She meant to say, Staci (her best, most favorite SU! dealer!!) LOL
Staci, you are absolutely right! Thanks for correcting me!
I am going back in blogs to see what I missed before I started reading blogs. This is just too cute with the little dragon peeking through. Your cards just keeping getting better and better! I love your stuff.
